The Skeletal System:
The skeletal system can be divided into two functional parts:
1- The axial skeleton.
2- The appendicular skeleton.
The axial skeleton consists of the bone of the head (cranium or skull), neck (hyoid bone and cervical vertebrae), and trunk (ribs, sternum, vertebrae, and sacrum). While the appendicular skeleton consists of the bones of the upper and lower limbs, including those forming the pectoral (shoulder) and pelvic girdles (figure 1).
